Cell and molecular bioengineering focuses on the micro scale of cells and molecules. Aided by a century of discoveries in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, our research at the Department of Bioengineering is (i) to apply engineering methodology to the analysis and investigation of biological systems; and (ii) to apply engineering principles to the design and construction of new synthetic biological systems.
Our research encompasses mathematical analysis of molecular and cellular events and biophysical modelling of cell processes, as well as bottom-up design and construction of new biological molecules and customised cells.
